You’ll need to fill out an application form so that we know about you, why you are interested in volunteering and how you are suited to the role you are applying for. We’ll then invite you for an informal chat about your application and the role. This will also give you the opportunity to ask any questions you may have. We will also need to confirm your identity, carry out a DBS check (criminal records check) and seek references before we can offer you a role. Once we have these, we’ll arrange your volunteer induction and a start date. We’ll get you started as soon as we can, but it does take a few weeks to complete this process.
Volunteering
Our volunteers bring a passion for physical activity, including sport, and a diverse range of skills and knowledge to provide additional help and support for our customers.
KAL has volunteers active in a range of roles:

Trustees – also from our volunteer Board of Trustees which helps steer the strategic and policy direction of KAL
All our volunteers receive an induction to KAL to ensure you know what you will be doing and have all the relevant information you need to do your role safely.

Volunteering FAQs
All our volunteers receive an induction before they start to ensure you have the information and support you need for the role you will be doing. Your induction will include a section on understanding KAL and what we do, how we support and reward volunteers and essential training on health & safety, safeguarding and equality, diversity & inclusion. Your induction will also ensure you understand what you will be doing in your role, the activities you will be supporting and make sure you are familiar with the site that you are volunteering at. You will be supported with regular feedback from your volunteer mentor. We treat your first month as a trial period at the end of which we will discuss with you whether the role is right for you and if there is any further support you need. We will also provide you with a volunteer uniform and travel expenses to make sure everyone can get to their volunteering sessions. Our volunteers can also access a discounted KAL membership (terms and conditions apply).
There is no set amount as it depends on the roles you will be doing, the sessions you will be supporting and your availability. We are looking for people who are able to commit to volunteering with us regularly, this is so that you are familiar with your role and the session and customers that you are supporting.
Please get in touch with our Volunteer Manager (volunteer@kal.org.uk) to discuss whether the time that you can commit would be suited to one of our roles. If not, we’ll try to suggest similar opportunities in the community that may better suit your availability.
The sports clubs that use our sites are separate organisations run by the club’s volunteers. They will be keen to hear from interested volunteers so you should speak to the club directly. Staff on site or our Volunteer Manager should be able to provide a contact for the club. If you have other questions, please get in touch with our Volunteer Manager (volunteer@kal.org.uk).
