No. Upon the completion of your programme you should be able to continue your journey using classes on our health timetable at a discounted rate via the KAL Active Movers membership.
However, if your health deteriorates during the time of the programme and you are advised to stop exercise, you may be re-referred later and will start the programme again.
Upon successful completion of your programme, you will be eligible for a 12-month KAL Active Movers membership.
This is a discounted membership allowing you to access the gym, fitness classes and swim sessions. As a follow-on activity to the Fitness for Health programme, we have also developed a health class timetable as a progression to further improve your health and fitness.
We will call you to check on your progress and try to provide any further support you may need.

A drink, suitable clothing for exercise, trainers and a sweat towel. You should also bring any medication you normally carry for your health condition, e.g. GTN spray, inhaler, EpiPen, etc.
We will offer you the opportunity to come back another day as there are many variables including anxiety about appointments, stress, caffeine consumption, etc. that could impact your results. If the results of your second appointment are still unstable, we will refer you back to your GP / health professional.

Your initial assessment appointment will be an opportunity for us to find out a little bit more about you and your current health status. We will measure your heart rate, blood pressure, BMI and hip to waist ratio as well as your cardiovascular fitness to check your physical health and suitability for progressing onto group exercise sessions. It is also a good opportunity for you to meet your instructor and ask any questions that you might have.
Before starting the Fitness for Health or Live Well sessions you will need to attend an initial assessment. Once you’ve been referred a member of the ERS (Exercise Referral Scheme) team will contact you to arrange this (over the phone or via email). Once your initial assessment has been booked, you will be sent a series of questionnaires to complete prior to this appointment.
Each centre has a gate to allow room for wheelchair access and a lift to allow access to the upper floors where the consultation areas and studios are based.
Huddersfield Leisure Centre also has a mobility scooter pick up service where a member of staff can meet you at the bus station or at your drop off point outside of the centre. Please make your instructor aware that you will need wheelchair support.
Yes, the centre has a car park. At Huddersfield Leisure Centre the car parks are operated by Kirklees Council and are pay and display.
If you’re attending a Fitness for Health session and using the car park at Huddersfield Leisure Centre you will need to pay for parking for the duration of your visit.
Disabled bays are available, and a disability badge must be displayed for free parking.
Yes, as referrals increase, we will start to deliver Fitness for Health & Live Well sessions across other KAL sites.
Initially you will not have access to additional activities. Access for the programme will be exclusively for ‘Live Well’ classes. As each person progresses through the programme, access will be re-assessed on a case-by-case basis.

Live Well Cardiac programme is £12 per month, £48 for the full 16 weeks. This discounted rate is only available for the duration of your programme
Fitness for Health is £12 per month, £36 for the full 12 weeks. This will allow you to access our sties at all opening hours. These discounted rates are only available for the duration of your programme.
16-week exercise programme which will consist of class based exercise. The exercises have been chosen to safely improve your health. The programme aims to improve both your fitness and confidence in approaching day to day tasks. At each session we will measure your blood pressure (optional) and resting heart rate. We will also verbally complete a health screening. All sessions on this programme are delivered by fully qualified exercise referral instructors.

Fitness for Health programme is 12 weeks & Live Well Cardiac programme is 16 weeks.
Fitness for Health is suitable for multiple health conditions including: Asthma, Arthritis, Hypertension, COPD, Joint replacement, Osteoporosis, Hypercholesterolaemia, Depression, Anxiety, Stress and Diabetes.
Live Well is suitable for those who have had a cardiac event and would like to return to exercise, ideally having already completed phase III cardiac rehabilitation.
