Junior Swim Training (Aquatic Skills)

KAL Training Academy

Training Academy is for swimmers aged 6-11 years old who are in Stage 6 or above on the Swim England Learn to Swim Framework.

KAL Training Academy is part of the KAL Aquatics Pathway, allowing swimmers aged 6-11 years old who are in Stage 6 or above to progress from the Swim England Learn to Swim Framework, develop a range of aquatic skills relevant to competitive swimming and potentially join the KAL Swim Performance programme for elite level competition.

Sessions include the introduction of skills such as starts and turns as well as stroke development, and are held at various pools and times throughout KAL. To join, swimmers must attend a free trial session where they will have the opportunity to take part in a training session and discuss suitability with the coach.

A KAL Swim Training Academy Gala is held twice per year, allowing swimmers to put into practice the skills they have learnt in a fun competition. Members of the KAL Swim Performance coaching team are in attendance at the gala and swimmers demonstrating quality skills are invited to join KAL Swim Performance’s Junior Development squad, alongside their Training Academy session.

Rookie Lifeguard

Developed by the Royal Life Saving Society UK, the KAL Rookie Lifeguard sessions teach children valuable survival and rescue skills, offering parents the comfort of knowing their children are aware of how to avoid dangers and enjoy the water safely.

The Bronze, Silver and Gold stage awards ensure children have the skills to be safe in and around water and have learned rescue and resuscitation techniques.

Rookie Lifeguard sessions are suitable for swimmers aged between 8-15 years old, who have achieved the Swim England Learn to Swim Stage 5 award or equivalent.
