What are the pool ratios for parents bringing children to public swimming?

Please refer to our Admission Policy

What happens if I am running late for a lesson?

Unfortunately, we do not permit late entry to our swimming lessons. Whilst we appreciate this can be upsetting for you and your child, lateness causes disruption for the whole class. It can also distract the teacher from being able to deliver from the plan they are working on, and your child would not complete the required warm up, which prepares both the body and mind for the lesson
KAL’s lateness policy is:

1. Swimmers must be on poolside for the start time of their lesson.
If a swimmer arrives at the facility late for the lesson, they
are not able to attend their lesson and will not be permitted to
the changing area.

2. Customers should aim to arrive in plenty of time, check in by
swiping your child’s membership card and giving their lesson time
at reception before heading to the changing rooms. As a minimum,
please ensure you arrive at least 5 minutes before the start of
the lesson to avoid being denied entry to the pool.

3. KAL also suggest your child arrives swim ready, where possible, to
reduce time in the changing areas prior to the lesson commencing.

4. Centre staff are not permitted to allow entry to the centre if
your child is late to their lesson.

What public swimming sessions can children attend?

Public Swims and Splash and Play sessions are available for all children and Mini Splash & Play sessions are available for children under 5 years old. All children under 8 years old must be accompanied by an adult as per pool admission ratios.

What do I do if my child cannot attend their lesson, for instance, because they’re unwell?

We understand that children cannot always come to their weekly lessons, for a range of reasons, so you do not need to let us know each time. If they are missing six or more lessons in a row then please try to let us know and we can make a note. As long as your Direct Debit remains in place, this will secure the swimming place for your child.

Why do the swimming instructors change?

We have many different, qualified swimming instructors within KAL and during the year we do experience instructor illness or have instructors on annual leave, etc. KAL will always strive to provide consistency and high-quality swimming lessons for all. For KAL to deliver high standard swimming lessons we do aim to get every lesson covered whenever we can.

Why hasn’t my child’s home portal been updated?

Sometimes it can take a few days for the instructor to update your child’s record. However, if something doesn’t seem correct to you or it has not updated for several weeks, please speak with your instructor.
